During April last year, I stayed in Oban and embarked on a guided excursion (Staffa Tours) with my adolescent children to witness puffins on Lunga, part of the Treshnish Isles near Mull. The journey involved ferry travel and walking. It proved to be an absolutely enchanting experience. The tour leaders were exceptionally knowledgeable and accommodating, particularly considering my limited mobility. We were astonished by the puffins' remarkable tameness and sociability – they permitted us to observe their distinctive facial features from as close as approximately five feet. We plan to revisit next spring, as this period offers optimal viewing of their mass arrivals in spectacular numbers.
